What does my membership include?

Once you become a member, you will receive a monthly club newsletter advising you of upcoming news and events.  You will be able to participate in a variety of 18th century events, educational demonstrations, treks, club shoots and more that are sponsored by the Fort Lee Scouts.  Our club often meets the first Saturday of each month at Fort Randolph in Point Pleasant, WV.  Most importantly, you will get to meet and share experiences with a lot of great people who share your interest in education and history.

I’m new to reenacting...How do I get started?

First and foremost, don’t get in a hurry.  Start by attending some events so you can meet and interact with some of the members.  They will be happy to help you get started.  You will then need to develop a persona, for example:  soldier, farmer, longhunter, etc… and you should narrow your persona to a particular time period between 1750 and 1795.  Most people start with a basic outfit in order to start participating at events.  Start slowly and do a lot of research.  We have all made the mistake of buying things to later learn that they aren’t correct for the time period.  If you go slowly, you will save a lot of money in the long run.  There are a lot of vendors and online sutlers that sell clothing and equipment for the 18th century reenactor.  Also, a lot of our members specialize in making clothing and accoutrements, or you may decide to make some of your own things.  This hobby is a constant learning experience, so take your time and enjoy it.  It’s all about having fun and educating the public.
